Full description

The Akita Inu is a calm, strong and self-possessed breed that often forms a close bond with its family while remaining wary of strangers. Its size, independence, guarding tendencies and potential intolerance of other dogs require experienced handling, early socialisation and secure management. Training should be calm, consistent and reward-based rather than confrontational. The dense double coat needs regular brushing and sheds heavily during seasonal coat changes.
