The Bloodhound has one of the most powerful scenting drives among dogs and can follow a trail with little regard for recall, traffic or physical obstacles. Secure lead or enclosed-area management, long scent-focused walks and patient training are essential. Its size, strength, drooling, loose facial skin and very long ears create significant practical care. Prospective owners should also plan for transport, high veterinary costs and careful handling of a dog that may pull forcefully on scent.
